Strengthening Our Commitment to the Environment

At Novartis, our commitment to responsible environmental stewardship is contained within our Corporate Citizenship policy.

Initiatives to increase energy efficiency and decrease water consumption, solvent emissions, and waste are part and parcel of this commitment.

In 2005, Novartis reduced its greenhouse gas emissions globally in line with the Kyoto Protocol.  Between 2005 and 2006, NIBR achieved a decrease of ~10% in energy consumption and a 6% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions while at the same time growing the organization through adding people, buildings and equipment. For example, our new buildings have incorporated many "green" design concepts, which reduce energy consumption by as much as 20%, and water consumption by 57% over traditional building design.
